Well, tonight I went to the Memphis Tigers game at the FedEx Forum. We've got a great team this year. Number 3 in the nation, baby! I went with Rob Jerkins, his family had an extra ticket, so I felt obliged to make sure that ticket was used...

We played the UAB Blazers tonight. I know, you haven't heard of them, but they're the second best team in the C-USA conference. Yes, our conference is that bad now. They're a pretty good team though, but I miss having Louisville, Cincinnati, and Marquette. Dang the Big East for taking them away from us and making the C-USA pathetic. But I digress...

We started out real strong, but unfortunately let them back in the game at the end of the first half. Our team is one of the most athletically talented in the nation, and they grabbed the lead back in the middle of the second half, and we put them away. As always, going to a game in the Forum is awesome. One of the best facilities in the nation, and definitely the nicest (probably) in college basketball.

Here's how excited I was getting during the game:

And here are the #3 Tigers whooping up on the Blazers:

On a side note, my brother found out where he's doing his residency for med school today! His first choice was, ironically enough, UAB. And he got in! We're all really pumped. This is where both he and the little wifey wanted to go.

Monday, monday. Always a tough day to get back into the swing of things at work. I had such a relaxing weekend that I really didn't want to go in today. Oh well, gotta bring home the bacon...

So, today I received a very encouraging email through my book's website. It was from a mother who homeschools her children and are reading through the entire series. Here's a couple of excerpts from the email:

"As a single parent who homeschools, I can't tell you how grateful I am that
someone is "solving the parable" for those who can't see it, and providing such
a wonderful workbook for teaching. I praise God that you have sought out and
done His work!"

and

"We have just finished the first book, The Magician's Nephew. My kids wrote a
very thorough "book report". When they finished reading them to me, the younger
one reminded me i was "supposed to go to lesson from the lion dot net on the
computer". So here I am..."

I had two major reasons for writing this book. 1) To give parents a tool to help them teach their children about Christ via Narnia, and 2) To make learning about Christ fun and exciting for kids. This email shows that God has granted me success in both of those areas. To have a child tell their parent that they want to use my workbook is the greatest compliment I will ever receive.

Another one:

"Since The Chronicles of Narnia is becoming very popular again, I hope you will
consider making workbooks for all of them."

To know that a parent hopes that I will create more workbooks for their child just blows me away. This is what I've always wanted to do: affect people for Christ. This whole process has just overwhelmed me. People from all over the nation (and even some in other countries) have bought my book.

This book happened because of my friend, Rebecca Grace. Without her idea to turn my vision into an e-book for AFA readers, this would have never happened. Because of her, I am now going to do a second one, plus I have other book ideas that I will pursue later on. If you know Rebecca, give her a big ole hug next time you see her!

Well, it's official. I have now joined the online world of Facebook. It's great getting to find people that I haven't talked to in forever. I already have Facebook friends, isn't that nice? It makes me feel special...

The week is over! It's been a long week at work, and I am quite happy to see the weekend. A couple friends of mine are leaving for a cruise tomorrow. I think I should join them...

Time for another installment of something fun and exciting from the past 5 months of my life: I wrote a book not too long ago. It's an e-book called, "Lessons from the Lion: Your Family's Guide to the Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe." It is a workbook for kids to help them learn about the story. Every chapter contains multiple choice, fill-in-the-blank, and discussion questions. Plus, the children get to draw and there are activities for them to do. The purpose of the book is to have parents and children read the LWW together and then do my workbook together.

Let me give you a little background on how this all came about. I received the entire Narnia series for my birthday two years ago. Yes, it's an odd present, but I had never read the series and I wanted to catch up on my youth. While I was reading The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, I thought, "Wouldn't it be great it kids had an interactive tool to help them learn about this story?" So, I just started working on putting some thoughts together. Didn't even know a movie was coming out at that point.

Well, because of getting my Master's and starting my business, my little book got put on hold. I finally finished a book proposal in May and sent it off to an agent. They said it looked good but that there wasn't enough time to get it published before the movie. At that point, I knew that was going to be their answer, but I was happy that I had taken my idea and tried.

A friend of mine writes for the American Family Journal, and she was starting to write an article on the movie at the end of September. She suddenly had the brilliant idea of offering her readers a resource for the movie. She came up with the idea of the ebook and her editors went for it. So, suddenly, my book had new life. They wanted to have it by the beginning of November, so I had a month to write it! No easy task, I'm telling you. We got it done, though.

It's been amazing. AFA has done so much to help promote my book. I got to do a national radio interview on their stations, and we did a radio spot that they play several times a day on AFR. My friend's story on my book has been picked up in several other news media. Even had a tv station in D.C. run a story on my book on their website. People from all over the world have come to the website to check out the book. It really has just blown my mind... God has blessed me through all of this, and I am utterly amazed by what he has done for me.

By the way, if you want to check it out, go to www.lessonsfromthelion.com.

You will never guess who I got to meet up with today...Lance Clay! That's right, good Ole Pal Lance, Director of Alumni Affairs at MC. We're having an alumni dinner here in Memphis in February, and he was up here getting a few of us to help him out. It was great to catch up with him at Starbucks. Lance is gotta be one of the coolest people I know. If you know Lance, go give him a big hug the next time you see him...
